DescriptionThis, elegant gem-set gold bird - enamelled in colorful, primary shades and edged with diamonds - stands proudly with feathered tail on full display. Small figurines featuring whimsical animal scenes -such as charging rams, or trumpeting elephants - were popular themes for such gem-inset minatures in the 19th century in India. Some of them have functions - acting as chess pieces or tiny boxes, for example - but the peacock here seem to have been made simply to be admired.
