DescriptionThis panel is composed of individually painted ceramic tiles depicting a vase brimming with blue, yellow, red, and turquoise flowers with delicate green leaves. The composition is lined with a double border of a flowering scroll and blue and yellow crenelations. The panel was created during the Safavid period (1501–1722 CE), when both religious and secular buildings were clad in brightly colored ceramic tile. The Safavids inherited the tradition of ornate floral ornamentation from their ancestors, the Timurids, but incorporated larger, more naturalistic flowers into their designs. On View
