DescriptionThis glass decanter (one of a pair) has a rounded base and long, hexagonal neck topped with a tall finial stopper. It rests on a hexagonal foot. These decanters were produced in Poland for the Ottoman market. Since the 1500s, Venice had been the primary source of imported glass throughout Islamic lands, but by the mid-1700s, Bohemia became the leading supplier of these commodities. European goods were fashionable among the Ottoman elite. This pair of decanters would have been displayed in the homes of upper- and middle class families.On View
