DescriptionThis mirrored cabinet (one of a pair) is located within the bathroom of the Mughal Gallery at Shangri La. The mirror is ensconced within an arched marble frame. A central lotus design at the point of the arch is flanked by floral motifs within the spandrels. The architecture of the this suite was inspired by the grand monuments of the Mughal dynasty in India. The Taj Mahal was a particular source of inspiration. This monumental mausoleum was commissioned by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan as a memorial for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal following her death in 1631 CE. Architecture during the reign of Shah Jahan is noted for its symmetry, uniform shapes, and naturalistic designs.On View
