Ottoman Qur\u2019ans were lavishly illuminated, embellished with glittering gold leaf. They were typically decorated with scrolling floral designs over gold or gold-and-blue grounds. This Qur\u2019an  is inscribed with a form of calligraphy called naskh. Naskh is one of the oldest styles of Arabic calligraphy, characterized by its small size and neat, fluid letters.
